Steeplechase Wins Help Highlight Redbird Invite

NORMAL, Ill. – Bradley won four individual titles and recorded six top-10 performances in school history to highlight the team’s final outing before the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday at the Redbird Invitational.

Junior Eric Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the first time in his career and won the event with a time of 9:14.58 for the second-best time in school history. 

Sophomore Caitlin Busch (Waterloo, Ill./Freeburg) also ran the first 3,000 meter steeplechase of her career and was less than seven seconds off the Bradley record as she crossed the line at 11:07.08 to win the event.

The day started with sophomore Elizabeth Dutcher (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) turning in career-best efforts in both the long jump and high jump.  Dutcher won the long jump with a career-best leap of 5.22 meters for the sixth-best performance in school history.  She also cleared a career-high 1.55 meters in the high jump to finish fifth overall.  Dutcher’s 1.55 meters in the high jump ranks seventh in school history.
 
Sophomore Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) was seven-tenths of a second from her career-best time in the 800 meters, finishing third in the event at 2:10.43 to pace 11 Braves in the field.  Junior Aaron Peck (Moline, Ill./Moline) led the Bradley men in the 800 meters, posting a time of 1:58.60 to finish 10th.

In the women’s 1,500 meters, sophomore Kristen Busch (Waterloo, Ill./Freeburg) clocked the ninth-best time in school history to finish seventh in the field at 4:34.51.  Junior Sarah McMahon was close behind in 13th with a season-best time of 4:41.52. 

Junior Chase Coffey (Hanna City, Ill./Farmington) was the top finisher among nine Bradley men in the 1,500 meters.  Coffey’s time of 3:54.12 was good for third in the field and sixth on Bradley’s career-best list.

Senior Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) won the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 17:50.96.

The Braves return to action May 16-18 at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Carbondale, Ill.
