ST. LOUIS -- Bradley women's golf recruits Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull H.S.) and Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights Collegiate School) each have qualified for the 2012 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships, which will be played July 24-29 at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
"The Optimist International is a great opportunity for Jenna and Danielle to compete against the best players in the United States and internationally," said Bradley women's golf coach Mary Moan. "It will be a good test for both of them and, based on their recent play, I believe they will fare well against a strong field."
Coming off her fourth consecutive Nebraska Girls' Match Play title, Lemek shot a 73 Monday at Wayne (Neb.) Country Club to qualify for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship from the Nebraska district in the Girls 15-18 age division. Her round of 73 was the best score recorded among all boys and girls qualifiers from her district. The future Bradley golfer has dominated the Nebraska youth golf scene by becoming the first-ever, 4-time winner of the Nebraska Girls' Match Play Championship among her 11 total Nebraska state championships. She also won the 2011 ArborLinks event of the PGA Junior Series and qualified for both the 2011 PGA Junior Championship and 2011 U.S. Junior Girls Championship.
Roadley qualified for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship from the Dakotas-Manitoba-Minnesota district by posting a 36-hole total of 142 this past weekend at Larters at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in St. Andrews, Manitoba. Her second-round 66 was the lowest single-round score among all of the 368 male and female qualifying players in all age groups from the 32 North American districts. Roadley was the Manitoba High School Provincial champion last fall after qualifying for four major championship tournaments during the summer of 2011.
Lemek and Roadley will join the Braves this fall as part of a 3-player recruiting class that also includes Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect H.S.).
