DURHAM, N.C. -- Sophomore Madison Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) turned in a double-double and junior Amy Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) had a match-high 11 kills to help lead Bradley to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 victory against defending Big South regular-season co-champion Winthrop Saturday afternoon.
The Braves (3-0 overall) went undefeated in tournament play at the North Carolina Central Invitational and are 3-0 to start a season for the first time since 2009. Bradley opened a season with three victories away from home for the first time since 1983.
Senior Madelyn Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) had two aces and a kill during a 9-1 BU run early in the first set, which helped the Braves jump out to a 10-3 lead. Winthrop (1-1 overall) pulled within three points, before Angelos and junior Alise Tupuritis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) each tallied a pair of kills during a 6-2 BU spurt which closed out a 25-18 win.
Ervin added a pair of kills late in the second set and sophomore Allie Falter (Lincoln, Neb./Pius) had a kill and block during a 5-2 Bradley run to finish off a 25-21 BU second-set victory.
Bradley never trailed in the third set and completed its second sweep of the young season with a 25-20 win. Tupuritis, Angelos and sophomore Courtney Keefe (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) each had three kills in the final set.
Kamp had 30 assists and 10 digs for her first double-double of the year. Angelos, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the North Carolina Central, finished with a match-high 11 kills.
Keefe turned in a match-high 14 digs to help lead BU's defensive efforts as the Braves held Winthrop to an .095 attack percentage.
Bradley returns to action Friday in Milwaukee, Wis., opening play at the Panther Invitational against tournament-host Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 1:30 p.m.
