PEORIA, Ill. -- Three Bradley pitchers combined on a 1-hitter and the Braves (22-23) rode a 7-run first inning to an abbreviated, 11-0 win against Robert Morris-Springfield (9-36) in the non-conference finale Tuesday night at Dozer Park.
Bradley right fielder Max Murphy became the third college player in Dozer Park history to hit two home runs in the game. His first-inning blast onto the left field picnic area opened the game's scoring and he added his 10th home run of the season to open the fourth inning.
Starting with Murphy's first home run, Bradley scored all seven first-inning runs with two outs. Greg Partyka followed with a double and scored on Tyler Leffler's RBI single. Evan Gruener doubled home Leffler, Drew Carlile had an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch and Chris Godinez completed the outburst with a 2-run single.
Starting pitcher Peter Resnick needed only 42 pitches to complete the first four innings, surrendering a 2-out single in the second inning to Lewis Applegate for the Eagles' only hit. Sean Safko threw a scoreless fifth inning and Matt Dennis (3-2) earned the win by working 2.0 perfect innings with four strikeouts to complete the shutout.
Partyka (3-for-3 with a triple and a double), Leffler (3-for-4, 2 RBI's), Gruener (3-for-3 with a double) and Eric Paulson (3-for-3) combined for 12 of Bradley's 17 hits.
With final exams starting Thursday and coinciding with Bradley's bye week in the Missouri Valley Conference schedule, the Braves will not return to action until hosting Indiana State May 15-17 at Dozer Park in the final three games of the regular season.
