OMAHA, Neb. - The Bradley duo of Juan Diego Cuadrado and Ashton Kalhorn both were voted first-team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes, according to a league-wide vote of sports information contacts announced by the league office during the State Farm MVC Team Tennis Championships.
A junior from Almeria, Spain, Cuadrado sports a 3.45 cumulative grade point average as an economics major. A two-time Bradley/Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Cuadrado was an honorable mention Valley Scholar-Athlete in 2011 and has earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his first four semesters since entering school during the 2010 spring semester. He shared the team lead with 25 singles wins this past year, finishing with a 25-12 overall record that included an 8-2 mark at No. 2 singles.
A sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., Kalhorn boasts a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a chemistry business major. Kalhorn played in each of the top four singles positions this spring and finished the year with 17 victories, including a 6-6 record in the No. 3 position, while adding 13 doubles wins. A team co-captain, Kalhorn is a member of the Braves Council student-athlete advisory board and represented Bradley at the NCAA Leadership Forum in November.
Cuadrado and Kalhorn helped the Braves to their best season since 1988-89. Bradley finished the year with a 15-14 dual match record and earned the No. 3 seed for last week's State Farm MVC Men's Tennis Team Championships, where they advanced to the semifinals with a 4-3 win against tournament host Creighton. Both players have been nominated for Capital One Academic All-America® consideration.
