MADISON, Wis. -- Bradley wrapped up a five-game road swing with a 2-0 loss at Big Ten Conference foe Wisconsin in the team's final road game of the 2012 season Tuesday. The Badgers collected seven hits in the first three innings and scored single runs in the second and third innings in the victory.
Both squads left runners in scoring position in the first inning, before Wisconsin (31-15 overall) pushed a run across in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Michelle Mueller had a one-out single and later scored on a Marissa Mersch single and Bradley (19-28 overall) error on the play as the Badgers took an early 1-0 advantage.
The Braves left the bases loaded in the top of the third after sophomore Bailiegh Basham (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon/Lake Land C.C.) drew her team-leading 32nd walk of the year and Wisconsin capitalized on a leadoff double in the bottom half of the frame.
Whitney Massey led off the bottom of the third with the first of her two doubles in the game and gave the Badgers a 2-0 lead when she scored on a double off the bat of Stephanie Peace.
Bradley came up empty after a leadoff single in the top of the fourth and the Braves were unable to get things going after two-out singles in both the fifth and seventh as Wisconsin extended its home win streak to 11 games with the 2-0 victory.
Senior Jackie Roth (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) and sophomore Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill./Chatham Glenwood) were both 2-for-3 at the plate, combining for four of BU's five hits. Sophomore Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) fell to 10-17 with the loss, striking out two and walking one in five innings. Meghan McIntosh earned the win for Wisconsin, improving to 6-5 with the complete game shutout.
Bradley closes out the 2012 regular season with a three-game series against Southern Illinois Saturday and Sunday at Laura Bradley Park. Saturday's noon doubleheader will be alumni day and BU's five seniors will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony prior to Sunday's noon contest.
