DES MOINES, Iowa – The Bradley doubles tandem of sophomore Michael Davis and junior Arthur Romanet went 2-0 in Saturday to win their pool in Flight 3 Doubles, highlighting the second day of action for the Braves at the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Individual Championships Saturday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bradley duo of junior Justin Abrams and senior Juan Diego Cuadrado also reached the championship bracket of their flight Saturday by splitting their pool matches in Flight 2 Doubles. Both teams will play championship bracket semifinals Sunday morning. Davis/Romanet will face Illinois State’s combo of Wilson/Sellitto for a spot in the Flight 3 title match, while Abrams/Cuadrado will take on the Drake duo of Goodman/Erasmus in a Flight 2 semifinal.
In Saturday’s singles action, the Braves earned three wins. Sophomore Ahmed Albitar benefitted from a default victory against Wichita State’s Guillermo Nicol to reach the championship match in Flight 3 singles. Albitar will face Drake’s Alen Alibasic in Sunday’s championship match.
Meanwhile, junior Hamish Weerasinghe and Cuadrado both earned third-place finishes in their respective singles brackets. Weerasinghe earned a 6-3, 6-2 win against Creighton’s Brandon Lee to earn the Flight 2 Singles consolation title, while Cuadrado won the Flight 4 Singles consolation crown with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Creighton’s Elliot Baker.
