INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Bradley will face a familiar foe when the Braves (13-6-2) open their seventh NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship Thursday at Northwestern (10-7-3) in a 7 p.m. first-round game at Lakeside Field.
Bradley is 5-1-0 all-time against the Wildcats, including a 3-2, overtime victory Oct. 2 at then third-ranked Northwestern. Freshman forward Christian Okeke scored a pair of goals in the regular-season meeting, including the game-winning golden goal in the 98th minute.
Thursday’s winner will advance to a second-round matchup at fourth-seeded Californina (12-4-2) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. (CST).
The Braves punched their ticket to a seventh NCAA Tournament appearance Sunday by earning a 1-0 victory against Missouri State in the title game of the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Championship at Shea Stadium. Bradley has won a season-best five consecutive games and eight of its last 10.
Bradley is 3-6-1 all-time in its six previous NCAA Tournament appearances, which included an Elite Eight run in 2007 and a trip to the second round in its last postseason in 2011. In its only previous NCAA Tournament game against a current Big Ten member school, Bradley played Indiana to a 1-1 draw, before advancing in penalty kicks, 5-4, in the second round of the 2007 championship.
