PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior forward Wojciech Wojcik (Elmwood Park, Ill./Elmwood Park) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced by the league office Wednesday, in addition to garnering the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week award after helping the Bradley soccer team to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title.
Wojcik was named to the Valley’s all-tournament team after helping the Braves to three victories in five days as the team claimed its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance by securing the league’s automatic bid. The MVC Player of the Year, he assisted all three of Bradley’s goals in a 3-2 overtime victory against Evansville in the opening round of the tournament. His three assists matched the single-match MVC Tournament assist record and he tied the Bradley season assist record. A secondary education (history) major, Wojcik owns a 3.27 cumulative grade point average.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Wojcik and the Bradley soccer team face Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Thursday at 7 p.m. in Evanston, Ill.
