PEORIA, Ill. - Missouri Valley Conference players of the year, league champions, school-record setters and current professional athletes all highlight the group of 10 candidates for the 2014 Bradley Most Outstanding Female and Male Athletes.
Each summer, Bradley University announces its annual Female and Male Most Outstanding Athletes from the previous year and for the third year in a row, the general public is being given the opportunity to weigh in on the decision for the 2014 awards. Voting will be available at BradleyBraves.com from Monday, June 23 through Thursday, June 26 and the winners will be announced Friday, June 27. The collective fan vote will be considered with votes cast by local sports media members and Bradley Athletics head coaches and staff to determine the 2013-14 Bradley Most Outstanding Athletes.
Fans may click here to cast their votes for the 2013-14 Bradley Most Outstanding Athletes beginning Monday morning. Voting will continue through Thursday and the fan totals will count as one-quarter of the overall vote, which also will include votes from local media (one-quarter) and Bradley Athletics staff and coaches (one-half). Only one ballot per voter per day will be counted and each day's voters will be entered into a daily Bradley-themed prize drawing:
The five female candidates are: Kristen Busch (cross country/track); Ariel Dechter (tennis); Emily Delvo (cross country/track); Danielle Lemek (golf); and Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (softball). Male candidates include: Eric Delvo (cross country/track); Walt Lemon, Jr. (basketball); Danny Masrin (golf); Max Murphy (baseball); and Wojciech Wojcik (soccer).
2013-14 Bradley Female Outstanding Athlete Candidate Bios
Kristen Busch, Cross Country/Track, Sophomore, Waterloo, Ill. (Freeburg H.S.)
After earning all-conference honors by running to a sixth-place finish at the 2013 MVC Cross Country Championships, Busch won the 5,000 meters at the 2014 MVC Indoor Track Championships and the 10,000 meters at the 2014 MVC Outdoor Track Championships ... Qualifying in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, Busch was the first Bradley runner since 2000 to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and she advanced to the finals in the 10,000 meters (18th) to earn USTFCCCA All-America honorable mention recognition ... Received all-region honors with her 17th-place run at the 2013 NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regionals, where she clocked the second-fastest 6K time in program history ... Set school records in the 3,000 meters and 10,000 meters during the outdoor track season ... Set the school record in the indoor 5,000 meters during her title run at the MVC Indoor Championships ... Collected four all-conference awards overall - cross country; indoor 3,000 meters; indoor 5,000 meters; outdoor 10,000 meters.
Ariel Dechter, Tennis, Freshman, Mundelein, Ill. (Mundelein H.S.)
The 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, Dechter led the women's tennis team with an 18-17 singles record during her rookie campaign ... The 18 singles wins tied for the second-best single-season total in program history and were the most ever by a Bradley freshman ... Added 14 doubles wins, giving her a total of 32 combined wins, the most by a Brave since 2005-06.
Emily Delvo, Cross Country/Track, Junior/Sophomore, Springfield, Ill. (Sacred Heart Griffin H.S.)
After earning all-conference honors with her seventh-place run at the 2013 MVC Cross Country Championships, Delvo won three individual Valley track and field titles in 2014 - indoor 800 meters, outdoor 800 meters, outdoor 1500 meters ... Became the fourth individual in Valley history to sweep the 800- and 1500-meter runs at the conference championship ... Ran the second-fastest times in school history in the indoor 800 meters, outdoor 800 meters and outdoor 1,500 meters and was a member of the school-record-setting distance medley and 4x400 meter relay teams.
Danielle Lemek, Golf, Sophomore, Doniphan, Neb. (Doniphan-Trumbull H.S.)
The 2014 MVC Golfer of the Year, Lemek set the league records for season scoring average (73.61) and MVC Tournament 54-hole score (212, -4) ... Won four individual tournament titles during the school year, capped by 7-shot win at the MVC Tournament ... Won MVC Golfer of the Week seven times during the 2013-14 school year ... Set the school record with a 66 in the final round of the Plantation Inn Intercollegiate ... Initially set the school and MVC 54-hole scoring record by firing a 212 at the Pat Bradley Invitational.
Madeline Lynch-Crumrine, Softball, Senior, Sedro-Woolley, Wash. (Sedro-Woolley H.S.)
Became the second three-time All-MVC first-team selection in Bradley Softball history and is the first-ever Brave to earn All-MVC honors in each of her four softball seasons ... Named the MVC Tournament MVP after leading the Braves to the postseason title ... Only player in The Valley to record 18 pitching victories and at least 40 base hits ... Set school records for single-season pitching appearances (46) and starts (35) ... MVC Player of the Week Feb. 24 after hitting .444 with a triple, home run and four RBI, while also going 2-0 with a 2.93 ERA during the Hilltopper Spring Fling.

Eric Delvo, Cross Country/Track, Junior, Springfield, Ill. (Sacred Heart Griffin)
All-Missouri Valley Conference in both cross country (7th) and outdoor track (steeplechase 2nd) ... Qualified for the 2014 NCAA Track and Field Championships in the steeplechase ... Seventh-place finish at the MVC Cross Country Championships was the best by a Brave since since 1984 and his time was the best ever by a Bradley runner at the MVC Championship ... Broke the school record in the 1,500 meters at San Francisco State Invitational ... Finished 14th in the steeplechase at the NCAA Track and Field West Preliminary in school-record time.
Walt Lemon Jr., Basketball, Senior, Chicago, Ill. (Julian H.S.)
A second-team All-MVC selection, Lemon also was selected for the MVC All-Defense Team ... Only player in The Valley to rank among the top five in scoring (18.0 ppg - 3rd), assists (3.9 apg - 4th) and steals (2.4 spg - 1st) ... Tied for 10th nationally with 78 steals and finished 12th with his 2.44 steals per game ... Invited to participate in the College Basketball Slam Dunk Championships, reaching the semifinals.
Danny Masrin, Golf, Junior, Palatine, Ill. (Jakarta International School)
First-team All-MVC after tying for fifth at the MVC Championship, the best finish by a Brave since 2005 ... MVC Golfer of the Week Oct. 9 winning the Butler Fall Invite individual title while leading the Braves to their first tournament team title since 1996.
Max Murphy, Baseball, Junior, Robbinsdale, Minn. (Robbinsdale Cooper H.S.)
A second-team All-MVC outfielder, Murphy was selected in the ninth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by Minnesota and has signed with the Twins ... 2014 MVC All-Defense and All-MVC Tournament teams ... National player of the week March 3-4 after his 3-home run performance against Dayton ... Hit .314 with 12 home runs and 42 runs batted in ... His 12 home runs were the most by a Brave since 2001 ... Wojciech Wojcik, Soccer, Senior, Elmwood Park, Ill. (Elmwood Park H.S.)
The 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year became the first-ever Bradley Soccer player to lead the nation in a statistical category by sharing the national lead with a school-record 14 assists ... NSCAA All-Midwest Region first-team selection ... Equalled the MVC Tournament single-game record with three assists in the quarterfinal win against Evansville ... Contributed to all four Bradley goals during the 2013 NCAA Tournament by scoring three himself and assisting the fourth ...
