PEORIA, Ill. -- Former Bradley cross country/track & field standout and current BU assistant coach Mary Goldkamp qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials after finishing second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase Saturday at the Music City Distance Carnival in Nashville, Tenn.
Goldkamp finished second in the steeplechase with a time of 9:54.90 to earn a spot in the Olympic Trial field later this month in Eugene, Ore. She edged third-place finisher Chantelle Groenewoud of Canada by less than one-tenth of a second to take second behind Stephanie Garcia (9:53.14).
The U.S. Olympic Track and Field trials are scheduled for June 21 through July 1 in Eugene, Ore. The women's 3,000 meter steeplechase prelims will be held Monday, June 25 at 6:50 p.m. (CDT), with the finals slated for Friday, June 29 at 6:45 p.m. (CDT).
Goldkamp ran at Oregon twice during her senior season (2011), turning in a then school record in the 1,500 meters at the Oregon Relays in April only to return the next month to break her own school record in the event and finish 21st in the 1,500 meter finals at the 2011 NCAA Track & Field West Regional in Eugene, Ore.
