2009 (Senior):  Split his time between first base and left field during the first half of the season, but played almost exclusively in the outfield during the second half of the season ... Battled through a long list of injuries during his senior season, beginning with a strained hamstring early in the season ... Collided with the wall in foul territory during the May series versus Southern Illinois, resulting in a concussion, a bruised hand and a lower back injury that ultimately ended his season a week early ... Opened the season with a grand slam home run in the 10-9 victory versus Pittsburgh Feb. 20 ... Added a walk-off double in the first game of the April 4 doubleheader versus North Dakota ... Clubbed a three-run home run April 22 at Eastern Illinois ... Shared the team lead with four homers.

2008 (Junior):  The leading hitter among Bradley's 16 newcomers, Escue finished third on the team in batting average (.314), runs scored (30), runs batted in (35) and home runs (3) ... Led the Braves with 17 doubles ... Used primarily at first base, but he did start seven games in the corner outfield positions ... Started the Illinois State series by going 6-for-11 with five runs batted in and four runs scored in the first two games against the Redbirds ... Ended the season by batting .385 (10-26) in the final six games with five doubles and seven runs batted in ... Was second on the team with 21 RBI's in 24 Valley games.

 

At Stanford:  Although he was limited to 15 games, Escue led the Cardinal with a .422 batting average as a freshman in 2006 ... Hit safely in 10 of his first 12 college games ... Hit .474 (9-19) in five Pac-10 games his freshman season ... Hit .278 in 20 games last season.

 

High School:  A three-time All-Mid-Illini Conference pick, Escue was twice named to the Peoria Journal Star all-area team (2003, 2004) ... Despite missing a month of his senior season due to injury, Escue set school career records for hits (131), doubles (43) and RBI (86) ... As a junior in 2004, Escue set the single-season school records with a .498 batting average and 19 doubles ... A two-time football letterman at quarterback, Escue helped the Panthers to the second round of the 2004 state playoffs ... Graduated third in his class.

 

Personal:  The son of Lance and Jean Escue, Grant was born April 19, 1987 in San Diego ... Boasts an extensive family sports tree:  one uncle, Jim Maddock, pitched at Missouri (1979-82) and tossed a no-hitter against Nebraska in 1981 and was drafted by Atlanta in 1982; Another uncle, David Maddock, played baseball at UIC (1985-86); Grandfather, Jim Maddock Sr., was a football center at North Carolina State (1945-49) and was drafted by the Rams; uncle, Charles Laird, played football at Mississippi (1958-61) and helped the Rebels to three Sugar Bowl wins; and yet another uncle, John Maddock, played collegiate golf at Western Illinois and is now the Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at Canisius College.
