PEORIA, Ill. -- Former Bradley volleyball standout Lindsay Stalzer will be playing for Las Divas de Aguadilla of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation after recently signing her first professional contract. The 2005 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, Stalzer graduated from Bradley in December with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Expected to play middle blocker for Las Divas de Aguadilla, Stalzer is one of two non-Puerto Rico natives on the roster, and is joined by American Jennifer Abernathy who played for Arizona. The season for the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation runs from January to March.
"I am excited for Lindsay to have such an outstanding opportunity," Bradley head coach Scott Luster said. "She had several choices, and I believe this will be a great way to begin her professional career. She will be moving back to the middle blocker position, but I know she will adapt quickly. They will love her in Puerto Rico!"
Stalzer finished her career as the Missouri Valley Conference career leader in kills with 1,948 and became the first Bradley volleyball player to earn MVC Player of the Year honors. The first three-time first-team all-Valley selection in school history, she also holds school and conference records for kills in a season with 720. She is one of two players in school history to have 1,000 kills, 500 digs, 100 aces and 300 blocks in a career.
Stalzer joins Laura Benzing as the only former Bradley volleyball players to play professionally. Benzing played professional volleyball in Germany for four seasons and is now the Director of Volleyball Operations at Oregon State University.
