Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Cape Girardeau, Mo. – The Bradley men's basketball team continued its strong start to the season, earning a 75-67 victory at Southeast Missouri State on Wednesday afternoon. The Braves improve to 10-2 with the win, while the Redhawks see their record evened at 6-6.

Four Braves scored in double figures in the winning effort, led by 18 from sophomore Darrell Brown. Freshman Elijah Childs tallied a career-best 15 points with junior Luuk van Bree and sophomore Nate Kennell adding 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Kennell also registered a game-high five assists to pace the Bradley attack, while four Braves – Childs, van Bree, Koch Bar and Donte Thomas – registered a team-best six boards.

The Braves trailed by seven points early, 9-2, before Childs took over and gave BU the lead. The rookie forward scored 11-straight points for the team, sinking three 3-pointers in a row (had just one entering the game) as Bradley claimed the 17-14 advantage. The Redhawks would square the contest at 22 but the Braves controlled the final five minutes of the opening half to claim a double-digit lead at the break. Bradley outscored SEMO, 16-5, in the final minutes of the half for a 41-29 advantage at the intermission.

Bradley shot 53.3 percent in the first half with a 7-of-12 mark from beyond the arc for its 12-point lead. The Braves also held the Redhawks to just 37.0 percent shooting, while forcing SEMO into seven first-half turnovers.

The Braves never trailed in the second half but had to earn its victory against a tough Redhawks squad. SEMO cut a 14-point deficit down to three, 50-47, with 10:28 remaining. However, van Bree knocked down a 3-pointer on the team's next possession to double the lead to six and the Redhawks were never closer the rest of the game. Bar hit two free throws on the next possession before adding a tip-in on the next as Bradley went back in front by double-digits, 57-47. The Braves then secured the win by hitting nine free throws in the closing minutes, earning the eight-point road victory.

Bradley shot 47.2 percent in the winning effort with a 9-of-18 performance from 3-point range, while holding the Redhawks to 38.2 percent shooting and 36.0 percent from beyond the arc.

The Braves look to wrap up their winning ways with a road contest at Mississippi on Friday. The final non-conference game of the season is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

Game Notes: Bradley's 10 non-conference wins are its most since also winning 10 during the 2006-07 season … BU is 10-2 on the year for the first time since the 1987-88 campaign … The Braves won back-to-back road games for the first time since the 2012-13 season, while winning two-straight games both on the road since 2008-09 … Bradley is shooting 51.7 percent from 3-point range during its last three contests (31-of-60), while connecting on at least half of its triples in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2011-12 season against Northeastern and George Washington … Bradley improved to 8-2 against the Redhawks, winning the last six meetings … The schools were meeting for just the second time in Cape Girardeau.
