PEORIA, IL. – The Bradley Braves Softball team fell in the second and third games of the series to the Evansville Purple Aces, 2-0 and 3-1.
Game 2
The Braves were trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning. Due to the lighting in the area and followed by tornadoes that touched down in Tazewell and Peoria Counties, the final two innings were postponed until the following day. The Purple Aces defended their lead in the resumed game. Senior
Austin Comstock didn't just log the Braves' only multi-hit game, but notched a pair of doubles. Senior
Kierston McCoy also recorded a double. The Braves were only out-hit by one, 7-6. Senior
Kinsley Robertson threw the complete game, her fourth as a Brave.
Game 3
The Braves fell 3-1 in the final game, losing the series 2-1. The Purple Aces scored a pair of runs in the second inning, adding to their lead again in the fourth. Trailing by three entering the bottom of the seventh, the Braves began to rally. Freshman
Kelsey Martin earned a pinch-hit walk in junior
Ella Shafers' spot in the order, as McCoy hit a single. Sophomore
Morgan Schlosser singled through the gap between shortstop and third base, then, thanks to a throwing error, Shafer, who came back in to run, scored. Despite a trip on her way to third, the heads-up baserunning off the errant throw earned the Braves their first run of the day. Even with a hit by pitch from senior
Ashley Breeding to load the bases, the Braves were unable to score another.
Comstock joined Schlosser and McCoy as the only Braves to record a hit. Sophomore
Olivia Turner and Comstock each worked two walks. The Braves out-walked the Purple Aces, 6-1. Sophomore
Abby Rusher threw a complete game, with just one earned run and a walk. She tied her career high in strikeouts with eight.
